Total: 2 hours approximately
(03:00—4:00pm Friday and Saturday,
The Harry Preston Room, Radisson Blu Hotel).
Want to know how to get your manuscript published? How advances and royalties
work? What being edited involves? What to do to sell translation rights? Well now
here is your chance to learn from one of the top editors in the genre.
Our Mistress of Ceremonies, Jo Fletcher, joined independent publishing
company Headline in 1985 and masterminded the launch of the fledgling imprint's
fantasy, SF and horror list, introducing award-winning writers like Dan Simmons,
Michael Bishop, and Charles L. Grant's acclaimed horror anthology
series Shadows to the UK. She left Headline in 1988 and worked for
Mandarin and Penguin Books (1988-90), then moved to Pan Books to run the
newly revitalised genre list.
She is currently Associate Publisher of Gollancz, the award-winning fantasy
and science fiction imprint, now part of the Orion Publishing Group, where her
authors include such giants of the field as Sir Terry Pratchett, the late Sir
Arthur C. Clarke, Ursula K. Le Guin, Gene Wolfe, Neil Gaiman, Stephen Donaldson,
Charlaine Harris and Polish superstar Andrzej Sapkowski.
This is your opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade—how to give
yourself the best chance to succeed, and what not to do—when you are submitting
your work to a major publishing house. Over two one-hour seminars on the Friday and
Saturday afternoons, she will instruct you on how to submit your work, what happens
once you do, and the process your manuscript goes through before it eventually
emerges as a potential best-seller at the other end!
This is the kind of information that any writer will find invaluable to their
career, and a unique opportunity to learn from one of the top editors in the field.

Please note that due to the nature of this event, if you cancel or fail to
attend either of the seminars, you will not receive a refund.
Whether or not you can attend the Workshops, if you would still like Jo Fletcher to
critique your work, you can send an electronic version of the first chapter of your
novel to: jofletcher@whc2010.org.
Only a maximum of 10 manuscripts will be accepted on a first-come basis. The cost
of an individual critique is £15 (to be paid in advance) and is only open to World
Horror Convention 2010 attendees. Deadline for submission is December 31, 2009. Please
double-space the manuscript, put your name, address and e-mail information on the first

discuss it with you in a personal and informal 10-15 minutes meeting at the convention.
Please note: The opinions expressed in these workshops and meetings are purely subjective
